What Does It Mean to Enjoy Time with Friends?

Does enjoying time with friends simply mean talking constantly and laughing? Perhaps that is what having fun means, but what does it mean to truly feel at ease with friends?

Could it mean that, even when little is said, silence never feels uncomfortable, but is simply silence? Silence in someone’s company should not always be associated with having nothing to say. Or perhaps it is exactly that: having nothing to say and not worrying about it.

It does not happen with everyone, though. Is that perhaps why we feel comfortable specifically with the people with whom it does happen? It cannot be a coincidence.

Maybe it’s because we worry less about what we should be or what we should say, and instead we simply are. We exist, even in silence, within a particular space and time, and we do so together. We share that moment, even without speaking, enjoying each other’s presence without the pressure of having to prove anything.

Isn’t this, perhaps, a glimpse of serenity and peace in a life that asks something entirely different of us?
